Struggling to fit exercise into your busy schedule? If finding time for a full workout seems impossible, don’t worry! You can still increase your physical activity with these simple, no-cost strategies.
Find just 150 minutes each week for physical activity—about 20 minutes a day—as it can make a big difference in your health. The good news is you don’t have to do it all at once. Spread your activity throughout the week and it will be just as effective. Even short bursts of movement can bring significant benefits.
Here are seven easy ways to get more movement into your daily routine:
Walk Your Dog: Grab the leash and head out with your furry friend. It’s a win-win—both you and your dog get some exercise and fresh air!
Family Walks: If your child is bored at home and it’s their vacation, what’s a better way to bond together than by taking them out for a walk? Children will explore new areas while you can increase your everyday movement.
10-Minute Workouts: If you’re stuck at home, try a quick workout to get your heart pumping. Crunch, squat, lunge, skip! You’ve got this!
Walk and Talk: You sit a lot while talking on your phone. Walk around while you talk. Many workplaces now have walking paths, where you can walk while conversing with your colleagues.
Fitness While Watching TV: Don’t miss your favorite shows—make them a part of your workout routine. Walk in place, do yoga, or use a treadmill while you watch.
Park Further Away: Avoid the stress of finding a parking spot by parking further away from your destination or biking there. This adds extra steps to your day.
Take the Stairs: Skip the elevator and take the stairs whenever possible. Climbing stairs is a great way to elevate your heart rate. Don’t forget to use escalators as a chance to climb and add more activity to your day!
Be mindful of these opportunities, and you can easily incorporate more movement into your daily routine. Looking to increase your activity even more? Consider becoming a ninja!
